Letter: Senior bowlers rolling along
Friday, Sep 11 2009, 1:05 pm
Every Tuesday morning at about 9:30 a.m., they file into Java Lanes Bowl. They are your Corning senior bowlers.
Ranging in age from the high 80s down to the high 50s, a few have slight limps, some a little bent at the waist – either forward or to one side or the other. Rain or shine, they are ready for action.
Among the ranks, there are retried folks from all walks of life: farmers, bakers, mechanics, truck drivers, store clerks, office clerks, salesmen, and on and on.
For some, it is their only outside activity; others bowl in other leagues. To a person, everyone of them wil tell you its their favorite league and they almost lost it all when the bowl closed last spring.
Thanks to Jerry and Bev Martini for their efforts to get our bowl open again.
Now, the message: We don’t quit, but our ranks are thinned out by a greater power and we need new – old – replacments all the time.
Come join us and have some fun.
