Bell celebrates 90 years

Essie Bell, long-time resident of Corning, will celebrate her 90th birthday Sunday.

Born in 1921 in the Philippines, Bell came to this country after World War II and moved to Corning nearly 50 years ago where she achieved the American Dream, purchasing a home for $6,800 that she still resides in to this day.

Bell enjoys taking care of plants, solving word puzzles, and playing Solitaire and dominoes.

She reads her Bible every evening and is grateful for each day God has given her.

"Prayer," she says, is the secret behind her longevity.
