Corning Chamber of Commerce reports: May 13

Corning Chamber of Commerce update

The Corning Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome Super Shopper Auto Sales as a new member. They are located at 1421 Solano St. in Corning, and the phone number is 321-6114.

Flying Boat is our business spotlight for the week. Flying Boat is located at 1522 Solano St. and is open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Although the business has been around for a few years it was recently bought by May Mai and her husband, Wei Quan. They opened the business as the new owners in March of this year. They also own Maple Gardens in Orland which is a Chinese "to go" restaurant. They have lived in Orland for eight years and have been in the restaurant business for ten years. When asked what the most popular dish is at the Flying Boat, May said that General Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Honey Walnut Prawns are the favorites.  May Mai and her husband have two children, 10 and 8 years old and they attend school in Orland. Wei Quan is the cook and May is the server. When they are not working they like to spend time with their children playing soccer and table tennis.  At the Flying Boat, you will find the same friendly service that you are accustom to and they still serve very generous portions. You may dine in or take out, call 824-4085 to order and enjoy a delicious meal.

You may be wondering what the purple bows down Solano Street are for. This is to bring attention to the upcoming Relay for Life of Red Bluff, May 16 and 17. The American Cancer Society is a member of the Corning Chamber of Commerce and we support them in the fight against cancer that touches all of us in some way. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a 24-hour community gathering where everyone can join in the fight against cancer by walking overnight to raise much-needed funds for research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Relay for Life of Red Bluff begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and goes until 9 a.m. Sunday at the Vista School 1779 S. Jackson St. For information, call 1-800-227-2345.

The Junior Rodeo is set to take place May 29 and 30 with a kick-off hospitality night Thursday, May 28 where the crowning of Senior Queen and Little Miss Rodeo will take place at 6 p.m. There will be a barbecue, the famous Cow Chip Bingo and Stick Horse Races for children ages 5 and under. Friday events begin at 7 p.m., and 5 p.m. Saturday. The Rodeo event entry deadline is May 11. Some of the events include: mutton busting, steer riding, barrel racing, pole bending; goat tying, team roping and more. Buckles will be presented for first place in each event, a saddle for All-Around Junior Boy and Girl and custom spurs for All-Around Junior Boy and Girl. For information, call 824-3777 or 824-4295.
