Corning Chamber of Commerce update
Business spotlight: Olive City Care Home
Corning Chamber of Commerce's business spotlight this week is Olive City Care Home, owned and operated by Jeff and Elena Heaney. They are at 423 Walnut St. in Corning, and the phone number is 824-2845. Olive City Care Home is a 24-hour assisted living facility that has nine private rooms; eight of which are currently occupied.
Jeff is retired from the U.S. Air Force and Elena was a room leader at a large child development center before starting the care home. Jeff and Elena have been married for 28 years and have three daughters who also work at the home: Shannon, 27, Jennifer, 25, and Dianna, 24. Dianna is the co-administrator of the home. She has worked there for four years. Shannon and Jennifer have been working for less than a year. Elena's mother, Florentina, also works part-time at the home.
The Heaney family has been in the elder care home business for 12 years. They care for the residents with all the activities of daily living, including meals prepared by Jeff as the main cook. Elena is a certified nursing assistant and does all the staff training. She also helps residents with their grooming needs such as hair cuts, manicure and pedicures. Jeff is a certified health care manager; he can transport residents to doctor appointments and insure that they know what is happening with their health care.
Fourth observed with
fireworks and holiday
The Chamber of Commerce office will be closed Friday for the July Fourth holiday. Also, chamber member, the Corning Exchange Club, is selling fireworks in the Hatfield's parking lot, 2020 Solano St., through Saturday.
Chamber Reporter update,
getting the word out
The chamber's newsletter is sent the last day of the month to all chamber members. It is a good means of getting the word out when your club, church or organization is having an activity or event. We would be happy to publicize any chamber member's event. The event will also be included in the community calendar that comes out the first of the month in the Corning Observer. If you would like your event to be included in the newsletter, please contact us at corningchamber@sbcglobal.net or phone 824-5550. There is no charge.
Time to get ready for annual festival
The Olive Festival, Aug. 21-22, is not that far away. Now is the time to get your sponsorship in, place your ad in the sponsor book, plan your parade entry, form your bed race team, decide on a vendor booth or create a recipe for the weekend cook-off. There is also a talent show that you may want to participate in, so now's a good time to prepare for your act. There is always lots of fun for everyone, so we encourage you to make your plans early.
Chamber seeks out
