Gott receives honors at chamber mixer

The Chamber's Annual Christmas Mixer, held Thursday was enjoyed by many people who packed the PremierWest Bank, the host of the event. The bank was beautifully decorated and catered by Salvagnos of Orland who is a Corning Chamber of Commerce member.

The evening had a special sense of good cheer and a lot of emotion as Lin Lima Director of the Senior Center announced the "Senior of the Year 2010." Mr. E.L. Gott, better known as "Bud" was awarded the title along with a gift basket from Bell-Carter and a certificate of appreciation from the center. Presentations were also made from the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. Chamber Manager Valanne Cardenas presented "Bud" with a plaque and a card of appreciation for his support for many years.

Mr. Gott is the one who started the Christmas Tree Lane back in 1970. He was also the manager of the chamber at one time, and has been an individual member for years since his retirement. Mr. Gott has also been a Rotarian for many years and has perfect attendance for almost 58 years! Kyle Lauderdale, PremierWest Bank's manager and also the Rotary president this year, gave a speech and commended Mr. Gott for his influence on students during his years as Superintendent of the high school and his positive influence on the Rotary, Chamber and the community.

Lin Lima arranged to have Mr. Gott's son, Ted in attendance that night, which was a very nice surprise for him. Emotional tears were shed because of the touching speeches for a man who has had such a positive influence on this community. Congratulations Mr. Gott!

Congratulations also to Jamison Properties for winning Christmas Tree Lane decorating contest Best All-Around. Terri Jamison received the perpetual Christmas Tree Lane trophy along with a check for $100. Boy Scout Troop 62 won Best Night Time Appearance with a $50. Wyatt Haywood from the troop, after receiving the check announced that they would donate the money to Corning Christian Assistance for holiday dinners for the needy. Corning Observer won Best Day-Time Appearance.

The Chamber would like to thank all the businesses who donated prizes for the raffle. There were many fine items to raffle and we can't thank you enough for your generous contributions.
