Letter: Got bicycle group?

Are there any local bike groups that bicycle in the Corning/Tehama county area, other than Chico Velo? And if there isn't, why?

I ride my bike in Corning nearly every day and alone. This is not very safe on many of these roads, especially South Avenue and Highway 99. The rural back roads are not the safest place to be, either.

I have found Corning itself not to be very bike friendly. There are no marked bike lanes and no bike paths that I know of. I am fairly new to the area.

I do not have the means, nor the knowledge to form a group for cyclists myself, but if there is one in the Corning area, I wish someone would let me know. And if not, perhaps the City of Corning should consider making our city a more bike friendly area.

There are so many beautiful roads to enjoy, and the scenery is out of this world.
