Corning Chamber of Commerce reports: May 6

Corning Chamber of Commerce update

Corning Car Show
We are anticipating a great car show this year and we hope that you are planning to attend. Friday registration begins at 3 p.m. and goes until 5:30 p.m. The cruise will begin then, starting at the Transportation Center and going down Solano Street when it will end up at Corning Ford. There you can enjoy some food, beverage, music and have a chance to win raffle prizes. Saturday begins with a pancake breakfast put on by the Corning Volunteer Fire Department at the fire hall on Fifth Street. The Show & Shine is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cars will be parked on Solano between Fourth and Sixth Street. A new event featured this year is the 4-by-4 slow drag at 9 a.m., and at 10 a.m. the low rider hydraulic show begins.  At 11 a.m., the first round of burnouts will take place, and at noon is the 4-by-4 R.T.I. Ramp competition. The burnout finals will be at 12:30 p.m.  Make sure you look for the announcing stand where from noon to 3 p.m. they will announce winners of the raffle prizes. There is a bistro patio set and a Nascar jacket that will be raffled off, so don't miss out. Throughout the day there will be vendors set up selling food and other items. The awards presentation will be at 3 p.m.

Junior rodeo
The Junio Rodeo is set to take place May 29 and 30 with a kick-off hospitality night May 28, where the crowning of the Senior Queen and Little Miss Rodeo will take place at 6 p.m. There will be a barbecue, the famous cow chip bingo and stick horse races for ages 5 and under. Friday, the event begins at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, 5 p.m.  The rodeo entry deadline is Monday. Buckles will be presented for first place in each event, a saddle for the all-around junior boy and girl, and custom spurs for all-around junior boy and girl. For more information, please call 824-3777 or 824-4295.

‘Let's Go To the Hop'
The Knights of Columbus presents a ‘50s-style sock hop from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St. Tickets are $10 per person. There will be a prize for the best ‘50s dress. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served, and there will be a no-host bar. Tickets are available at the door or you may get tickets by calling 824-5046.

Relay for Life
You may be wondering what the purple bows down Solano Street are for. This is to bring attention to the upcoming Relay for Life of Red Bluff, May 16-17. The American Cancer Society is a member of the Corning Chamber of Commerce and we support them in the fight against cancer that can touch all of us in some way. The Relay for Life is a 24-hour community gathering  to raise much-needed funds for research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Relay for Life of Red Bluff begins Saturday, at 9 a.m. and goes to Sunday morning at Vista School, 1779 S. Jackson St. For more information, call 800-227-2345.

Valanne Cardenas is manager of the Corning Chamber of Commerce. Contact her at 824-5550 or corningchamber@sbcglobal.net.
