Corning Chamber of Commerce update

The Corning Chamber of Commerce would like take this opportunity to welcome as a new member, J.C. Olander Attorney at Law, 714 Sixth Street, Corning, CA 96021. His phone number is 824-0288.

Our business spotlight for the week is Corning Lumber, 1102 Yolo St. in Corning. The Close family has owned the store since 1926 and the store has been around since 1900. The family also own Close Lumber in Sutter, Calif. Corning Lumber is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and  is closed on Sunday. Sharon Rodriguez is one of the managers. When asked what she wanted people to know about Corning Lumber, she said that she wants people to know that customer service is number one. She also said that the employees at Corning Lumber enjoy their jobs so much that several have been there many years. Sharon has worked there for 36 years and others have worked there between 20 and 30 years.  Corning Lumber sells all materials for building a house from start to finish. She encourages Corning residents to come in and check the prices. As always the Corning Chamber of Commerce encourages you to shop local when you can.  Sharon is a Corning native who grew up in a family of 13 children who all went to Corning schools. She is married with two grown children who live in the area. They have cattle and her favorite thing is to be with family.  When asked if there are any future plans for Corning Lumber she said that they have property on South Avenue where they plan to build a new facility, but because of the economy it will not happen for a while.  If you have any needs and would like some information from the experienced staff at Corning Lumber, call 824-5468.

This year's Car Show turned out to be a wonderful success. The weather was beautiful and we saw many more spectators than in the past. The Corning Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all of the generous sponsors of the car show that made this event possible. A big thanks, also, to the City of Corning for their help and support and also to the Corning Volunteer Fire Department who put on a great pancake breakfast.  There are too many individuals to thank by name without the possibility of leaving someone out, but we want to say thank you to the chairman of the Car Show Committee, Doug Hatley of Corning Ford and the Car Show Committee who worked tirelessly to organize and run this event. We also would like to thank Benny Brown of Corning Ford for hosting the car show mixer Friday night. There were approximately 500 people that attended. Lin Lima of Dream Themes and Schemes provided hotdogs, beans and potato salad for the event. Jon Wallingford and Sean Wilson of A-DJ Mobile Disc Jockey provided the entertainment.  Thanks again to Benny Brown and Corning Ford.

The Red Bluff Master Works Choral and Orchestra and students of Community Christian School will sing "I Pledge" at  7 p.m. Sunday at First Church of God, corner of Luther Road and South Jackson in Red Bluff. They will be honoring God, the United States of America and the men and women of the military.
