Celebrating fowl northern valley style
The 11th Annual Snow Goose Festival - celebrating the millions of geese, swans, ducks and sand hill cranes of Northern Sacramento Valley - will be held Thursday-Sunday, at the Chico Masonic Family Center. The festival will feature trips to rice fields and refuges; and free youth activities on Saturday and Sunday. For more information or to register for events, visit www.snowgoosefestival.org.
Ready for some youth baseball?
Little League sign-ups for children ages 5-16 are set for 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday. All sign-ups will be in the cafeteria at West Street School, 900 West St. Birth certificates are required. Fees are $40 for one child and $35 for each sibling, up to a maximum family fee of $110. There is also a fundraiser fee of $20 per family. Details: 520-3372.
Card parents needed for sober grad event
The Corning Union High School Parents Club - Cards In Action - will hold a Parent Club/Sober Grad meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the north gym conference room at the high school, 643 Blackburn Ave. This meeting is for all parents of students who attend or have attended CUHS who are interested in helping with Parent Club activities and/or Sober Grad. Spending a day picking at prunes
The 7th Annual Tehama County Prune Day is from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Feb. 5, at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge, 355 Gilmore Road, Red Bluff. Anyone interested in prune production is encouraged to attend. Two hours of PCA credit can be requested. The $15/person registration covers lunch and meeting costs, and must be received by Jan. 29. Enjoy crab or tri-tip and support lady cards
Corning High School Girls Basketball is having their "All You Can Eat" crab or tri-tip feed from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Feb. 6, at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St. Either meal - crab or tri-tip - is $30 each. All proceeds go towards the girls basketball program. Tickets may be purchased from any player or by calling 567-5100.
Parents join for Sober Grad Raffle
Corning High School Parents Club — Cards in Action — is working together with parents from the Orland, Willows, and Hamilton communities to sponsor a 2010 Sober Grad Raffle. The raffle has drawings for trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Napa and San Francisco, and for cash prizes of $500, $350 and $200. Tickets are $20 and the drawing will be held Feb. 6. Retired teachers focus on funding scholarships
The California Retired Teachers Association, Mt. Lassen, Division 9, meets at 11 a.m. Feb. 8, at the Federated Church of Orland, 709 First St., Orland. The cost for the luncheon will be $10. Conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett, from the North State Symphony, will be the guest speaker. Two members from the symphony will also play with singer Maigen Matteucci, and 10-year-old pianist Martin Trang. The event is to help raise funds for the group's scholarships.
