Frederick H. Jones

Frederick H. Jones passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Red Bluff Health Care. Frederick was born on September 8, 1916 to Frank and Sarah Jones of Cameron, West Virginia. 

Frederick graduated at the age 16 in Parkersburg, W. Va. He enlisted in the navy and was stationed aboard the battleship USS W. Va. During the Pearl Harbor attack, he was an instructor on a 50-ft. LCM Landing Craft. Later, he was promoted to Chief Boatswain Mate and in 1945 was transferred to the USS LST 798.

In 1937, Frederick married Edith Marie Bales. In 1947, after retiring from the Navy, the couple moved to Corning and Frederick went into the radio and TV business. For a few years he left Corning to travel the other states, returning to Corning in 1979. He was regarded as an outstanding member of the American Legion.

Frederick was preceded in death by son, Frederick E. Jones of Fresno, in 1969.

Frederick is survived by son, James Robert (Geraldine) Jones of Redding; daughter, Mary Evelyn (Max R.) Jones; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for Frederick will take place at 11 a.m., July 11, at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Corning.
