Join two Rec Classes and save money
Mommy/Daddy/Caregiver and Child can enjoy the excitement of rhythm, movement, balance, singing, pretend, and props with recreation class "Mommie N' Me", ages 0-4 years old. Join in on the musical fun from 10 - 10:45 a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 20 - Feb. 17, at the Transportation Building, Third and Solano streets. Cost is $30. Comfortable clothes are recommended.
Or join "Music N' Motion," ages 2-4 years old, from 11 - 11:45 a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 20 - Feb. 17, also at the Transportation Building. "Princesses" need ballet slippers and tap shoes; "Prince Charmings" need tennis or jazz shoes. Cost is $25 for this class, or sign up for both classes for $45. Details: 824-7011.
Red Cross prepares residents for response
The local Red Cross will be offering a class from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, to local residents about how to respond to local disasters. This class will give an overview and practical ways of how the Red Cross responds to local and out-of-the-area disasters. The Red Cross is seeking to build up their local capacity in disaster response in Tehama County and is actively recruiting volunteers. The class will be held at the Family Resource Center at 220 Syacmore Street in Tehama. There is no charge for the class.
Ready for some youth baseball?
Little League sign-ups for children ages 5-16 are set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21; and 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 30. All sign-ups will be in the cafeteria at West Street School, 900 West St. Birth certificates are required. Fees are $40 for one child and $35 for each sibling, up to a maximum family fee of $110. Help a young boy in need
Landon Touvell is a six-year-old boy from Capay. Recently diagnosed with leukemia, a benefit tri-tip dinner is being held for him from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the Capay Elementary School, 7504 Cutting Ave. Tickets are pre-sale only and may be purchased at Capay Elementary, Corning High, Hamilton City High or at Orland Fitness, 217 E. Walker St. Adults are $12, children 10 and younger, $6 and pre-schoolers are free. Details: 624-2499.
Recruiting professionals for MRC training
Medical Reserve Corps of Far Northern California will host its next orientation course for interested volunteers from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at National University, 2195 Larkspur, Redding. Participants must pre-register no later than Friday by e-mailing, volunteer@mrc-fnc.org, or by calling, 530-246-2402. Volunteer corps members are licensed professionals who are deployed, in times of emergency, to help provide aide to existing medical and public health resources in Northern California.

Celebrating fowl northern valley style
The 11th annual Snow Goose Festival — celebrating the millions of geese, swans, ducks and sandhill cranes of Northern Sacramento Valley — will be held Jan. 28-31, at the Chico Masonic Family Center. Card parents needed for sober grad event
The Corning Union High School Parents Club - Cards In Action - will hold a Parent Club/Sober Grad meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the north gym conference room at the high school, 643 Blackburn Ave. This meeting is for all parents of students who attend or have attended CUHS who are interested in helping with Parent Club activities and/or Sober Grad. Spending a day picking at prunes
The 7th Annual Tehama County Prune Day is from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge, 355 Gilmore Road, Red Bluff. Anyone interested in prune production is encouraged to attend. Two hours of PCA credit can be requested. The $15 per person registration covers lunch and meeting costs, and must be received by Jan. 29. Enjoy crab or tri-tip and support lady cards
Corning High School Girls Basketball is having their "All You Can Eat" crab or tri-tip feed from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St. Either meal - crab or tri-tip - is $30 each. All proceeds go towards the girls basketball program. Tickets may be purchased from any player or by calling 567-5100.
Parents join for Sober Grad Raffle
Corning High School Parents Club — Cards in Action — is working together with parents from the Orland, Willows, and Hamilton communities to sponsor a 2010 Sober Grad Raffle. The raffle has drawings for trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Napa and San Francisco, and for cash prizes of $500, $350 and $200. Tickets are $20 and the drawing will be held Saturday, Feb. 6. Retired teachers focus on funding scholarships
The California Retired Teachers Association, Mt. Lassen, Division 9, meets at 11 a.m. Feb. 8, at the Federated Church of Orland, 709 First St., Orland. The cost for the luncheon is $10. Conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett, from the North State Symphony, will be the guest speaker. Two members from the symphony will also play with singer Maigen Matteucci, and 10-year-old pianist Martin Trang. The event is to help raise funds for the group's scholarships.
