Trial date set for doctor accused of DUI

A Sutter County judge on Friday set a July 19 trial date for a former Sutter North Medical Group physician charged with causing injury while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Ifeanyi C. Igwegbe, a gastroenterologist, lost control of his car in May 2010 on his way to perform medical procedures at Rideout Memorial Hospital and hit another car. He is also facing a civil suit by the driver of the other car.

The trial was delayed because the California Highway Patrol officer who interviewed Igwegbe at the accident scene and administered a field sobriety test is on medical leave for back surgery, Assistant District Attorney Jana McClung told Judge H. Ted Hansen.
