Sams Chapter cancels campout; meets for luncheon
The Tri-County Sams Chapter of the Good Sam Club canceled its February Campout and held a luncheon and meeting at the Iron Skillet Restaurant in Corning instead.
Representatives of eight member rigs, three guest rigs and one other guest attended.
After an enjoyable lunch, the meeting was held and a moment of silence for Jack Love, who died in January. He will long be remembered by all members.
Guests introduced were potential member Don Gerfen of Chico, Joyce and Clyde Burt and Joe and Sabra Marano of Klamath Falls, Ore., who are Good Sam members in Oregon, and Nancy Mattos of Orland, who was a guest of member Wayne Barry.
The Good Sam members from Oregon were staying in the Red Bluff RV Park and read our last news item in the newspaper and called the local president to see if they could attend the luncheon and get to know us.
It was reported that our flag pole holder has been repaired so that we can now display the California flag along with our other flags at our outings. Wayne Barry was appointed as our new historian to replace Bonnie Love, and Pearl Divine will now take over as Sunshine chairwoman and birthdays and anniversaries.
The March 8-10 Campout will be held at the Gridley Inn & RV Park, with Bob and Pearl Divine as trail bosses. Some of the members will be meeting at the Black Bear Diner in Willows at 9 a.m. for breakfast and then travel together to the RV park.
Anyone owning a self-contained RV that would like to go on monthly campouts are encouraged to call Wagon Master Lisa Sol at 385-1344 or President Richard Sol at 200-7403.
Sharon Furia, the 2012 Chapter Sweetheart, selected Pearl Divine as the 2013 Chapter Sweetheart, and presented her with a box of chocolates and crowned her for the year.
