County should take look at puppy mills

Puppy mills are a scourge on society and a particular problem in Tehama County. And while one of the primary hurdles in addressing the cruelty associated with puppy mills is the lack of good data on where and how they operate (“Animal activists make allegations against county,” March 21), the fact is that even one puppy mill is one too many.

The Humane Society of the United States urges the Tehama County Board of Supervisors to expand its inquiry into this local industry and take proactive steps to assure that local, state and federal laws are being followed and enforced to the fullest extent.
