Playtime in the summer months

With the games all played and the school year ending, what's a sports reporter to do? That's where all of you come in.

While the games may be ending, recreation continues across the summer months. We still plan on being fixtures at American Legion baseball and Little League baseball and softball games, but those seasons also end.

What we are looking for is information from you about items related to sports or recreation. This can be athletic camps, recreation softball scores, traveling soccer teams, trophy fish - you get the idea.

We'd be glad to hear from youth swimming programs,  summer bowling leagues, or even get results from competitive lawn mowing, although I have a neighbor who should be a charter member in the Lawn of Fame. We're also very interested in hearing about local individuals with exciting stories about their life-long love affairs with a particular sport. Maybe they participate in a sport or activity that is not widely followed, or maybe they've amassed an impressive collection of sports memorabilia.

If it's an opportunity to be active or enjoy recreational activities during the summer, we want to hear about it.

I would also like to express my gratitude for all the exciting sports action Paul Gadbois and I have been fortunate to be part of. We've gotten to cover overtime wins and losses, buzzer-beaters, walk-off wins, and section championships in all the sports we cover.

For those who've played on tri-county teams and exhibited exceptional sportsmanship, as well as the parents and fans of area teams who have helped create such an exciting sports atmosphere, we thank and salute you.
