BREAKING NEWS: Tornado spotted in Colusa County

A tornado was spotted shortly after 3 p.m. today in north central Colusa County, heading east toward Maxwell at 15 mph, the National Weather Service reported.

The Weather Service announced a tornado warning for the Maxwell-Delevan area just before 3 p.m., which included an alert for hail the size of golf balls.

A single-car accident was reported on Interstate 5 north of Maxwell-Colusa Road, apparently caused by ice on the highway.

Other cars were reported to have slid in the general area, but only the one car left the pavement and crashed into a barbed-wire fence.

A tornado was spotted, but as of 3:20, residents in the area reported the skies were calm — without rain or hail or even strong winds.

The original weather warning was extended to 3:45 p.m.
