Seeking Miss Corning candidates, business spotlight, and more
Ribbon Cutting/Anniversary - First Choice Realty celebrated their one-year anniversary on June 30th and had a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on that day. Teresa Smith agent/owner, served up a nice chicken barbeque for those who attended with the help of her mother, Ruth Rhoads, (The Boss as they call her). Dave Henry, broker, Laura Alvarado, personal assistant and Anna Maria, agent, where there to assist as well. Those who attended the Ribbon Cutting included Vice Mayor Becky Hill, Miss Corning, Tara Pankowski, Shelly Treat of Rainbow Realty, Melody Rath, of PremierWest Bank, Nannette Eller of Northern California Title, Chris Hill of Hilcrest Real Estate, Barbara Bills of Barbara's Properties and her daughter Cherise. Representing the Corning Chamber of Commerce were directors, Kyle Lauderdale president - elect of PremierWest Bank, Pete Dagorret of Napa Auto, Carol Powers, Teresa Amundson of Mortgage Investment Consultants, and Chamber Manager, Valanne Cardenas.
Business Spotlight - The Chamber "Business Spotlight of the Week" is Beyond Satellite, owned and operated by Scott Chamberlin. Scott has been in Corning almost 4 years after growing up in Orland, and has had his business here for three years. Scott is a retailer for Dish Network, Clearwire, and XM Satellite Radio. He also does home theater and television installation. He contracts with the large box retailers such as Circuit City to do TV installations. Scott also works with WildBlue and HughesNet satellite Internet. Scott said, "We specialize in the custom and the difficult". In the past Scott has worked for Certified Systems, Accularms and Direct TV. Scott is married with three children, two boys and a 2-month old baby girl. His parents, Duncan and Janis Chamberlin own Duncan's Auto Sales at 1111 Solano Street, (across the street from the chamber office). Miss Corning - We are still looking for candidates for the Miss Corning Program that will kick off the Olive Festival on Saturday August 16 at the Memorial Hall. If you know of someone who is interested in running they may call the chamber office at 824-5550 or stop by and pick up a packet. There will be an informational meeting next Monday at 6:30 pm, at the chamber office, 1110 Solano Street. (Next door to City Hall and the Water Department).

| As far as I know, there has never been a Miss Corning who was pregnant, on parole, or on drugs, perhaps someone needs to check their facts. In addition, this is not city funded. the girls are required to obtain sponsors, provide their own attire and sponsors within the town provide the scholarship monies. really. know your facts before you assume. |
