Learning about employee rights

Fairground kicks off new month

Tehama District Fairgrounds in Red Bluff will be hosting the 8th Annual Mini Donkey Show — First National Show — starting at noon Friday, 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, and 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, in the Pauline Davis Pavillion. For more information, call 347—4457.

The fairgrounds will also have the Inaugural Bull Auction — Gathering High Quality Angue — at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, in the Don Smith Pavillion. For more information concerning this event, call 736—0727.

 

Kids' church program starts

The AWAWA program at First Baptist Church will start up at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 506 Colusa St. Children three years old through the sixth grade are welcome to come. Students, grades 7-12, will start meeting from 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 12, also at the church. For any questions, call 824-3490.

 

Notice of public hearings

The Corning Union Elementary School District will be revising the "Conflict of Interest Code" for the district during a public hearing, held at the regular meeting of the Governing Board of the Corning Union Elementary School District, at 7 p.m. Sept. 8, in the district board room, 1590 South St.

The Fair Political Practices Commission requires Government Agencies to biennially review and revise the "Conflict of Interest Code" prior to Oct. 1, 2010.

Another public hearing will also be scheduled, during the regular meeting of the Governing Board of the Corning Union Elementary School District, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, in the district board room, 1590 South St., to adopt a resolution stating whether "each pupil in the district has sufficient textbooks or instructional materials in specified subjects consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum frameworks adopted by the state board," as is required by the Educational Code Section 60119, as revised by Chapter 900, Statutes of 2004, and CCR Title 5, Section 9531(c).

Bridge to be replaced

The Tehama County Public Works announces the bridge on Sixth Avenue, between Samson and Corning roads near the town of Tehama, will be closed from Sept. 7—9. The bridge will be closed for replacement.

Card parents begin a new year

The Corning High School Parents Club — Cards in Action — will hold their first meeting of the new school year at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the staff room, at 643 Blackburn Ave. Discussion of the Homecoming Alumni Turkey Dinner, hosted by the parent club, will be a main topic of interest during this meeting.

Meetings are held regularly at 7 p.m. the second Mondays of each month, and all parents of students who attend or have attended CUHS, who are interested in helping with Parent Club activities and/or Sober Grad, are encouraged to come.

Special event benefits vets

A mini storage auction and pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St.

The breakfast — to be prepared by the Corning Exchange Club — is from 7—9:30 a.m. and is $5 per person. The auction will start at 9 a.m. and items to be sold will include dishes, furniture and collectibles.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Corning Post — Disabled American Veterans.
