Briefs: School trustees taking a retreat

Corning Union Elementary School District Board is holding a retreat from 5-9 p.m. on Monday, which is open to the public.

The retreat will start with a closed session during which superintendent evaluation and employee negotiations will be discussed.

This will be followed by an open session which will begin with the announcements and actions taken in closed session.

The board will then discuss Corning Union Elementary School District reconfiguration, instructional minutes at Maywood Middle School, advisory period at Maywood, food services and wellness committee, and school services of California/analysis of revenue impacts.

The board will also review the Benjamin Franklin Preparatory Charter School petition, and board policy.

A vision statement is the only action item on the agenda.

North Valley Dairy Day

A Risk Management Workshop series is being held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Feb. 6, in conjunction with California Dairy Quality Assurance Program.

The workshop is being held at the Glenn County Farm Bureau Office, 831 Fifth St., Orland.

The event is free and a lunch will be provided.

Workshop topics are dairy economic benchmarking, financail tools and planning, dairy producer panel, USDA-RMA livestock gross margin insurance program overview, to feed or not to feed, using the ammonia-n test kit, and research updates.

Walnut Day, Almond Institute

The University of California Cooperative Extension Butte and Glenn Counties is holding a Walnut Day/Almond Institute workshop on Feb 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., at the Masonic Family Center, 1110 W. East Ave., Chico.

There is no charge for the workshop, but there is a $12 per person cost for a buffet lunch.

Topics will include update on laws, pruning, irrigation, honey bees, walnut blight, summer diseases of almonds, walnut husk fly, insect pest management, and state of the walnut industry.

Chamber dinner set Feb. 13

The Los Molinos Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Installation of Officers Dinner at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13, at the Los Molinos Veterans Memorial Hall, 7980 Sherwood Blvd. The event is co-sponosered by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3909.

Tickets are $25 each, for a dinner of either prime rib, chicken or vegetarian. For more information contact Betty Morales at 384-1706.

Safe & Sober Grand Raffle sale

Tickets for the third annual Safe & Sober Grand Raffle are on sale for $10 each. Enter for a chance to win a grand prize trip to Hawaii or a second place prize of a weekend trip to San Francisco. There are also four cash prizes available.

The drawing will be held Feb. 11 at noon. Proceeds benefit Willows High School, Orland High School, Hamilton High School and Corning High School's Safe & Sober Grad Night programs.
