Crime Briefs: Aug. 28
School burglarized
A Wii game console was reported stolen from Rancho Tehama Elementary School on Monday, Aug. 23. When a school employee arrived at the school, located at 17357 Stagecoach Rd., she found three classrooms had been broken into with the doorknobs broken off. The only missing item was the console, according to the Tehama County Sheriff's Department.
Two caught with drugs
During a traffic stop on Monday, Aug. 23, at 5:10 p.m. on White Road in Red Bluff, sheriff's deputies said they found the driver of the vehicle, Lori Eldridge, 37, of Red Bluff, to be in possession of .5 grams of methamphetamine and a plastic syringe filled with a dark liquid, and wanted on an arrest warrant out of Shasta County.
The passenger in the car, Rebecca Bennett, 22, of Los Molinos, was found to be in possession of a oxycotin pill hidden in a lip balm container, said deputies, and that she did not have a prescription for the drug.
Both women were arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail - Eldridge on suspicion of transportation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, in lieu of $39,000 bail; Bennett was booked on suspicion of possession of a narcotic. Her bail was set at $35,000.
Man resists arrest
Corning police contacted Brian Wayne Cunningham, 36, of Corning, at Palm Avenue and Fig Lane at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Cunningham initially gave police a false name and fled on foot north onto Fourth Avenue, police said.
With assistance from the sheriff's deputies and the California Highway Patrol, police set up a perimeter in the area. A woman flagged officers down and told them a man was in her backyard, police reported.
Cunningham fled again but was soon caught by law enforcement and struggled as they attempted to take him into custody, stated a press release.
After being medical cleared at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital for a sprained ankle and minor scrapes, Cunningham was booked into the Tehama County Jail on resisting an executive order and resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer. He is being held without bail.
Man arrested for child abuse
David Jay Holmes, 29, of Red Bluff, was arrested by Red Bluff police on Tuesday, Aug. 24, after the police department received a report from St. Elizabeth Community Hospital of a possible child abuse.
When police arrived at the hospital they were directed to a 2-year-old child who had bruising about her legs, hips, arms, back and buttocks, said police.
Police reported the child's mother said Holmes had spanked the child at his Elm Street residence the previous night.
When questioned, police said Holmes admitted to hitting the child too hard, causing the injuries.
The 2-year-old and three other children in the residence were taken into protective custody by the Tehama County Department of Social Services, police stated.
Holmes was placed under arrest and booked into the Tehama County Jail on suspicion of felony child abuse. Bail was set at $10,000.
Attempted burglary
Ben Johnson, 61, of Orland, reported to the sheriff's department someone unsuccessfully tried to kick the front door of his 300 block Highway 99W residence at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25. The unknown person then left in a blue pickup southbound on the highway, said sheriff's deputies.

Computer, wallet stolen
On Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 12:09 p.m. deputies went to the 300 block of Barham Avenue in regards to a residential burglary alarm activated. When they arrived they found an open back door to the residence and determined a burglary had occurred.
The homeowner, Rosalie Henderson, 48, of Corning, came to the home and stated an Acer laptop computer and brown wallet were missing, said deputies. Estimated loss is $920.
Several guns stolen
Angela Stinson, 26, of Red Bluff, told deputies her Arbor Lane home had been burglarized sometime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, deputies said. Neighbors reported seeing a gold or tan four door sedan leaving the residence about 4 p.m., according to deputies. Stolen was a Glock 9mm pistol, .357 revolver with ivory grip, Marlin .22 cal rifle, Remington 20 gauge shotgun, Remington 12 gauge shotgun, .223 cal Remington bolt action rifle, and small fire proof safe. Estimated loss is $2,075.
Illegal hunter caught
A suspicious pickup caused deputies to respond to Del Mar Road in Cottonwood at 7:22 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, where they observed Donald Henson, 47, of Cottonwood, removing a tailgate from a blue 1997 Ford pickup and place it in the back of a gray 2005 Ford pickup, said deputies.
When Henson saw the deputies, about 75 yards from his location, he jumped into his vehicle and drove away, deputies reported.
Using emergency lights, the deputies attempted to stop Henson who continued to drive and tailgate fell out of the back of his pickup onto the roadway, according to a press release.
Deputies said, finally pulling over, Hensen exited his pickup and started yelling "this is private property," and stating he had a loaded rifle in the pickup.
Henson told deputies he had permission from the property owner to take the tailgate and hunt on the Del Mar property, according to deputies, who later learned from the ranch manager that the property owner, Timothy Methenitis, 52, of Redwood City, had not given permission for Henson to do either.
Henson was arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony. Bail was set at $20,000.
Window broken, computer stolen
On Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 2:17 a.m. deputies took a report from Michael Burnham, 47, of Red Bluff, who said his La Bray Avenue residence had been broken into while he was away from home, said deputies.
The Sheriff's Office reported Burnham's neighbor contacted him to state someone was in his house and that a light colored SUV was seen leaving the residence prior to the deputies arrival.
A broken window was located in the home and Burnham said a laptop computer was missing, said deputies. Estimated loss is $900.
Shots fire at residence
Red Bluff Police Department received several 911 calls of shot fired in the area of Jackson Street near Union Street at 5:11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25.
When police arrived in the area they located seven handgun shell casings in the roadway and upon further inspection found two of the shots struck a parked vehicle, three struck a nearby residence and one was in a nearby tree, said the police department.
Police reported two of the shots into the residence entered the living area of the house, however, no one was in that area and no injuries reported.
Police believe the house was not the target of the shooting, but that a man wearing a white colored shirt seen running from the area was involved in the incident.

Multiple vehicles burglarized
Several vehicles were reported burglarized and property stolen in and around the City of Red Bluff on Wednesday, Aug 25.
Police report it was learned during the investigation the incidents were likely associated and a white male adult associated with a stolen Nissan Maxima stolen from Orland, was possibly involved in the burglaries and thefts.
The investigation led police to the 400 block of Jackson Street were the stolen car was located and recovered, said police.
On Thursday morning Red Bluff police were notified a Toyota Avalon had just been stolen from the parking lot of Red Bluff Fitness on Jackson Street and the description of the suspect was the same as the description of the suspect who stole the Nissan.
Working together the Red Bluff Police Department and Tehama County Sheriff's Department obtained a search warrant and searched an apartment where they located numerous stolen items from several thefts reported the previous few days and items indicating a parolee, Daniel Kelley was associated with the apartment, said police.
At 7:26 p.m. officers located the stolen Toyota at a motel on Main Street and found Kelly, 23, and Jamie Schuck, 32, both of Corning, inside one of the motel rooms in possession of stolen credit cards in connection with the stolen Toyota, police reported.
Both were arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail - Kelly on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and violation of parole, held in lieu of $20,000 bail; Schuck was booked on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant. Bail was set at $62,500.
