On Monday, seniors at the Corning Senior Center help themselves to the "Wall of Food", built by the Corning Volunteer Fire Dept. The food donations were gathered from the community during the holiday season.

Addition at senior center more than just a wall

Corning volunteer firemen delivered groceries to the Corning Senior Center, Wednesday, creating what has come to be known as "The Wall of Food," according to center Director Lin Lima.

"This is one of the greatest gifts that can be given to us, there are so many that just can not afford regular staples. I can not thank these 'Earth Angels' enough for what they do for our Senior Community," Lima said.

Many of the seniors that come to the center are on fixed incomes and so the food is very much needed. The groceries are food items still being distributed from donations received from the community during the Christmas season.

In the next couple of days, hundreds of Corning seniors will be contacted through a phone relay, seniors calling seniors, until "The Wall of Food" disappears. Seniors, who would like to participate, need to bring their own bag and are allowed to take a bag of food per day.
