Fairground kicks off new month
Tehama District Fairgrounds in Red Bluff will be hosting the eighth annual Mini Donkey Show — First National Show — starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, and 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, in the Pauline Davis Pavilion. For more information, call 347—4457.
The fairgrounds will also have the Inaugural Bull Auction — Gathering High Quality Angus — at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, in the Don Smith Pavilion. For more information concerning this event, call 736—0727.
Business celebrates first year
Corning Chamber of Commerce would like the community to join them in wishing the Fountain of Health a "Happy One-Year Old Birthday" on Tuesday, Sept. 7, during an all-day open house from 5:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., which includes a Yoga Party celebration practice from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The gym as seen a lot happen their first year including the additional of many new features such as zumba, kettle bells, line dancing, and self-defense. They have also sponsored several events involving authors, financial seminars, and yoga instructors. And they are not finishing growing, next year they hope to add a book club and promote breast cancer awareness.

Notice of public hearings
The Corning Union Elementary School District will be revising the "Conflict of Interest Code" for the district during a public hearing, held at the regular meeting of the Corning Union Elementary School District board of trustees, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, in the district board room, 1590 South St.
Another public hearing will also be scheduled, during the regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, in the district board room, 1590 South St., to adopt a resolution stating whether "each pupil in the district has sufficient textbooks or instructional materials in specified subjects consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum frameworks adopted by the state board."

Kids' church program starts
The AWAWA program at First Baptist Church is at 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays, at 506 Colusa St. Children three years old through the sixth grade are welcome to come. Students, grades 7-12, will start meeting from 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 12, also at the church. For any questions, call 824-3490.
Bridge to be replaced
The Tehama County Public Works announces the bridge on Sixth Avenue, between Samson and Corning roads will be closed from Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 7-8. The bridge will be closed for replacement.

Card parents begin a new year
The Corning High School Parents Club — Cards in Action — will hold their first meeting of the new school year at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the staff room, at 643 Blackburn Ave. Discussion of the Homecoming Alumni Turkey Dinner, hosted by the parent club, will be a main topic of interest during this meeting.
Meetings are held regularly at 7 p.m. the second Mondays of each month, and all parents of students who attend or have attended CUHS, who are interested in helping with Parent Club activities and/or Sober Grad, are encouraged to come.

Special event benefits vets
A mini storage auction and pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St.
The breakfast — to be prepared by the Corning Exchange Club — is from 7—9:30 a.m. and is $5 per person. The auction will start at 9 a.m. and items to be sold will include dishes, furniture and collectibles.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Corning Post — Disabled American Veterans.
Bridal Show seeks vendors
Exhibitors are being sought for the Yuba-Sutter Bridal Show set for Sunday, Sept. 19 at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds in Yuba City.

School "puttin' on the ritz"
Mercy High School will be hosting its annual fundraising dinner auction beginning with a no-host cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Red Bluff Community Center, 1500 S. Jackson St. The event will feature silent and live auctions, dancing, a buffet dinner catered by Hobart Vogel, Executive Chef at Rolling Hills, and fun games and prizes.

Free forum addresses abuse
A Prescription Drug Abuse Forum will be held 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium, Chico State University. This is a free community event addressing the national epidemic concerned with the abuse that can occur with the use of prescription drugs.
Speakers include medical professional Lee Thomas Snook Jr.; Acting Program Manager Salvadore Biondolillo, and Special Agent Jeanne Allen of the Drug Enforcement Agency Acting Diversion Program; and President and Director Susan Foster, of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.
Before the forum, medical and law enforcement professionals will be available from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 22, at the Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico for a presentation, and question and answer period. To RSVP for the presentation, call 934-2542.
Concerts return to county
