The heat is on
Jr. Livestock Auction sales hot
On a hot, and we're talking temperature-breaking hot, Saturday, most people would find their selves at the lake, at a river park, or just staying in, in the comfort of their own living rooms. But when talking about most people, we're not talking about 4-H and FFA people who on Saturday wrapped up at least a year's time of work, as they got ready to sell their animals at this year's Tehama District Jr. Livestock Auction, held at the fairgrounds during the Tehama District Fair in Red Bluff.
Amidst hundreds of others just like them, who appreciate the motto that a "little hard work never hurt anyone" - 4-Hers, FFA members, their parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, grandparents, great-aunt LIzzies, buyers and volunteers alike - piled into the little auction arena located on the far northern end of the fairgrounds.
Here and throughout the heat of the day, one and all, helped play a part in a Tehama County tradition that rewards local youth for a little bit of that hard work. Kids who invested money, time and energy while learning how to raise and take care of animals for market.
The auction, ran by the Tehama District Jr. Livestock Auction committee, is a non-profit organization made up of numerous volunteers. Volunteers that help with anything from assigning bidding numbers to buyers, to walking around with pitchers of water and iced tea, to herding stubborn animals into a pen - all for the benefit of Tehama County 4-H and FFA members who hope someone out there will recognize their time and effort and purchase their animal.
