Corning man held in car theft

A Corning man was one of two men arrested when he was reportedly found with a stolen vehicle that was disabled on the side of Interstate 5 on Thursday, reported California Highway Patrol Officer Philip Mackintosh.

The officer stopped about 7 p.m. to assist Justin Fred Ford, 23, near Gyle Road. "The vehicle had Illinois license plates, but they appeared to be expired," Mackintosh said. "When CHP dispatch ran the license plate, it came back as a stolen vehicle."

The CHP officer kept Ford and Lorenzo Valencia, 40 of Anderson, on the ground at gunpoint until other officers arrived, Mackintosh said.

Both men were arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and vehicle theft. Bail on each was set at $30,000 each.
