Letter: Corning native opposes Prop. 8

You remember me, right? I grew up here. I went to West Street, Olive View, Maywood and was a proud Corning Cardinal. I went to church with you. I shopped in your store. Sat next to you in class. I was your varsity All-League catcher. I played football! You coached me. You taught me.

I am writing you today to draw your attention to Proposition 8. If Prop. 8 passes, it will overturn the right of same-sex couples to marry. It will overturn our state Constitution requiring equal treatment of all.

The people who want you to vote “yes” contend that if “people like me” get married, it will threaten marriage. I just don’t see it. Do you? I could threaten your marriage? I don’t think so. I have even been to a few of your weddings, and I bet some of you will come to mine.

When you go into the voting booth Nov. 4, think of me. Think of my giant smile and how I am one of you. Think of how you have known me my whole life. Think of how I graduated from Corning High, from college, have a great job, pay taxes. Put a face with your vote.

We are not that different! I am one of you! I am asking for your support. Please allow me to have the same opportunities that you do. You remember me don’t you?!

Vote “no” on Proposition 8.
