Looking for the perfect Valentine this year? You might consider Blossom

“The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” aka Blossom, the fence, and the crate. Blossom was sold at a pet store as a miniature Boxer.

After three years when the person that bought her had a child she felt she couldn’t take care of a baby and a dog, so Blossom was given to “a nice man.” A month later Blossom found her way back to the person who gave her away, face full of scratches and scars. And there starts the story of our little lion.

Not being able to keep the dog, Blossom came to the shelter. Of course, she did not have the name Blossom then. We took pictures, showing the scratches, and saw the soul of a sweet and loving dog who needed a new beginning. We decided to rename this dog Blossom, as we knew she would blossom with a little love.

The following will explain about The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.

She has been adopted three times and each time her home absolutely adored her, but all three brought her back for the same reason.

The Lion - We believe that Blossom is a Boxer/Hound mix and is currently 4-years-old, spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated.

She is housetrained and quiet but wants to be the only dog in the household. She gets along with cats after a careful week or two of integration and loves children. Blossom is clean and quiet. She would thrive in a home where she is the only dog and with a person who is home most of the time.

The Witch - Blossom can hop like a gazelle over a fence if left unattended. She appears to do fine with our shelter 6-foot chain link fence but really prefers to do her business and come back inside the house.

The Wardrobe - Blossom is crate trained and all three homes were instructed in the use of a crate. All three homes refused to use the crate because they felt it was cruel. Unfortunately, just like an unattended child, Blossom entertained herself when left alone in the home, as many dogs will.

What is the purpose of a crate? Is it cruel to put your dog in a crate? A crate should never be used as a punishment box. A dog should not be left in a crate for more that four to eight hours at a time (depending on the age of the dog), and they should never be crated outside. A crate is designed to be a safe haven for your dog.

It should make your dog feel protected as it would in the wild going into a den. Many dogs take to a crate right away, others may need some adjustment to realize that this is their safe place, their bedroom.

After being at the shelter for 11 months, this wonderful dog deserves a new forever home. Could Blossom get a new Valentine’s Day home? Could it be your home?
