Police: Yuba City woman cashed more than $1K in fake checks
A Yuba City woman is facing criminal charges in connection with cashing more than $1,000 in suspected forged checks.
Elizabeth Renee Blackmon, 26, of the 1300 block of Dustin Drive, was booked and released Monday night, Yuba City police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey said. Police said she passed the majority of the checks at one Bridge Street liquor store last month alone.
No court dates have been set.
Blackmon is charged with four counts of burglary, three counts of forgery, as well as a handful of other charges related to passing phony checks at Harry’s Liquor in the 1100 block of Bridge Street.
Police believe Blackmon passed the majority of her suspected forgeries at the liquor store, but said it is possible other businesses in Yuba City and Marysville may also have been victimized.
Pavey encouraged businesses to come forward if they believe they may have been hit and reminded store owners to report any suspicious activity to the Yuba City Police Department at 822-4660.
