Church distributes food and clothing on Mondays
The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Corning and the Gifts of Sunshine distribute food and clothing each Monday.
The distribution is held from 9 a.m.-noon at 24050 Hoag Road.
On Thanksgiving, the church distributed rice, beans, potatoes, noodles and juice with the help of Gifts of Sunshine, which is a partnership of two Corning High School graduates.
"John (Peterson) and my goals are to help those who are truly in need. We felt like the best place for us to start was right here in our hometown," said Judy Creel, managing partner of Gifts of Sunshine.
The church has no funding except what it generates. It does receive donations of bread, pastries and other food items from Safeway and Savmor Foods.
The church is looking for help from anyone who can make a food or monetary donation. The church also accepts clothing and blankets.
"These folks really appreciate all the help. The food and clothing is really a blessing to them, especially during the winter months. We would greatly appreciate any help we could get from our local community. They can drop the items off here on Mondays or call me at 824-3425," said Barbara Witter, director of the Seventh-day Adventist Community Services Center.
