Six teens covet Miss Corning crown
Six teen's who attend Corning High School will be competing tonight in the 2010 Miss Corning Contest. The crowned winner will reign over this week's Olive Festival activities.
During the event, each girl will be asked to pose, give a welcome speech, character portrayal, and extemporaneous speaking, as they vie for the crown.
Previous to this evening's contest the girls were interviewed on two occasion and were involved in community service activities.
The newly crowned Miss Corning will receive a $500 scholarship and each of the other contestants will be awarded a monetary prize.
This year's contest, organized by Chamber of Commerce Director Sonya Akers and sponsored by Bell Carter and other local businesses, will be held 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St., and is open to the public.
Tonight's contestants are:
• Meagan Carpenter, the 16-year-old daughter of Tamara Carpenter of Corning and Bruce Carpenter of Columbia Falls, Mont., is a junior at Corning High School. She is sponsored by Hignell Inc., Truck World, Richfield Feed and Supply, Les Schwab Tire, American Homes and Land Realty, Linda and Jeff Yancy, and Moller Realty.
• Anne Trevino is the 17-year-old daughter of Rudy and Bonnie Trevino of Corning. She is a senior at Corning High School and is sponsored by Trevino Machine.
• Camille Blanchard, 18, is the daughter of Victoria Blanchard of Richfield and Arthur Blanchard of Red Bluff. She is currently a senior at Corning High School. Blanchard is sponsored by Corning Carpet Store and Interland Business and Gifts.
• Christina Acosta, senior at Corning High School, is the 16-year-old daughter of Colleen and Trevor Lewis of Red Bluff. She is sponsored by Corning Auto Center and the Tehama County Deputy Sheriff's Association.
• Jessie Rose Bradley is the 18-year old-daughter of Kerrie Bradley of Corning and Charles Bradley of Corning. She graduated from Corning High School in June and is currently attending Shasta Community College.
• Sherrie Bell, 17, the daughter of Marietta and Frank Bell of Corning is a junior at Corning High School. She is sponsored by Crane Mills, Les Schwab Tire, and Olive City Quick Lube.
