Corning man charged with domestic abuse

A Corning man was jailed for domestic abuse after Corning police responded to a call of a physical fight Tuesday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to 1673 Palm Ave. at 5:18 p.m., where they contacted a 45-year-old female. The woman reported she had been in an argument with her boyfriend, John Elliott Cleary, when he got angry and hit her in the face with his fist, said CPD.

Police contacted Cleary inside the residence and took him into custody, before transporting him to the Tehama County Jail where he was booked on a felony charge of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant.

The woman received a swollen left eye and a scratch to her right forearm, but refused medical treatment, said CPD.

Cleary's bail was set at $25,000.
