Gerber man killed in crash

Staff report

A man not wearing his seatbelt was killed in a car crash June 27.

Robert Evans Jack, 36, of Gerber, a frontseat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 5:05 p.m., when Teri Rae Jack, 51, of Gerber, lost control of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer he was driving eastbound on Gyle Road. The vehicle drifted to the right of the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Roger Smith said the Blazer went down an embankment and through a field before colliding head-on with a large oak tree.

The seatbelted driver, complaining of head, hand, back and abdominal pain was flown by helicopter to Enloe Medical Center in Chico, where she was treated and released, according to an Enloe spokeswoman.

The crash is under investigation.
