Deadlines looming for school scholarships

Foundations have begun accepting applications for school scholarships and loans for 2010. Here is one of the local scholarships and loans now made available to students in Tehama County and other local counties:

Opportunity Scholarship Fund - Deadline March 31. Application details available at www.shastarcf.org or www.mycollegequest.org. Details: 244-1219; Shasta Regional Community Foundation.

Three graduating high school seniors will be selected to receive up to $10,000 for first four years of college. Students must attend a "Cash for College" workshop in January or February, must be eligible for Cal Grant funding and must have submitted a FAFSA.

Ivy B. Horr Medical Education Loan Fund - Deadline March 31. Application details available at www.shastarcf.org. Details: 244-1219; Shasta Regional Community Foundation.

This low-interest loan will be awarded to a student pursuing an education in medicine. Student must be engaged in the study of medicine or in medial training at a college or university.

No swimsuit or talent competition; for young women who are actively involved in their school and community. Thousands in college scholarships and prizes awarded yearly for students, 13-19 years of age.
