2010 Queen, Mr. Cardinal celebrated at big game

It was a week of fun and festivities at Corning High School leading up to last night's Basketball Homecoming crowning of a queen and her court, as well as Mr. Cardinal.

During half-time of the varsity Cardinals versus Anderson basketball game, 18-year-old senior Cristina Diaz was to be crowned 2010 Homecoming Queen, along with her court: Junior Princess Jessica DuBois, Sophomore Princess Shae Mesker and Freshman Princess Erica Rivera.

Candidates for Mr. Cardinal performed a dance routine for the crowd and then did individual skits during the Homecoming Dance at which time a final contestant was crowned the honor of being 2010 Mr. Cardinal.

Diaz is the daughter of Julia and Rafael Diaz, of Corning. She has played field hockey, and plans on joining this year's track and field team. Diaz is a member of Interact, Leadership and Marketing and has an overall grade- point-average of 3.8. Diaz said she plans on going into the medical field to become a nurse.

DuBois, 16, the daughter of Steve and Sara DuBois, of Corning, is involved in volleyball and track and holds a grade-point-average of 3.54. When she finishes high school DuBois plans on furthering her education to become a pediatric nurse.

Mesker, 15, is the daughter of Rob and Heidi Mesker, of Richfield. She enjoys playing field hockey, basketball, leadership, and is a member of the California Scholastic Federation. Mesker has a grade point average of 4.0. She said her future plans include attending a four-year college, having a well paying job, traveling the world, and being happy.

Rivera, 15, is the daughter of Rosa and Jancito Rivera of Corning. Rivera plays volleyball and basketball, is a member of California Scholastic Federation, and is the freshman class president. She has a grade-point-average of 3.86 and plans to become a nurse or teacher. She said her brother is her hero, and she lives by the Nike motto - "Just Do It."
