Drowning ruled accidental, linked to inhaling aerosal product
Drowning has been reported as the official cause of death for a 19-year-old Red Bluff resident who was found face-down and unresponsive while swimming at Antelope Creek on July 13, said the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office.
Sean Siders’ death also has been ruled accidental by the Tehama County Coroner’s Office, although it also has been linked to his inhaling of an aerosol product not long before his death.
The drowning occurred in the creek at Cone Grove Park in Red Bluff when Siders was swimming with three friends.
Siders had left the location of his friends around 6 p.m. to go up creek to swim and was found by those same friends about 10 minutes later unconscious, floating in 4 to 5 feet of water.
His friends and Sheriff’s Dep. Kyle Lovelady initiated CPR on Siders until medical personnel arrived, but to no avail as Siders died soon after.
During the investigation into the incident, the sheriff’s office learned Siders and his friends had been inhaling the contents of a CleanSafe aerosol container while swimming in the creek, the department said.
The results of a forensic autopsy performed in Woodland was received by the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, which confirmed Siders cause of death to be drowning and that he suffered from acute inhalant toxicity.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the toxicology report determined Difluoroethane, a chemical found in CleanSafe was found in Siders’ system.
