Joyride in Corvette leads to arrest

Teen who testified against Endicott arrested for stealing company's sports car

A teen who testified in court against accused child molester Thomas Endicott, has been arrested for taking a joyride in a 2001 Chevy Corvette owned by Endicott Enterprises.

Michael Scott Rindahl, 18, of Corning, was arrested on Saturday, along with Chase McClaine Forest, 19, of Corning, on suspicion of commercial burglary and auto theft, after reportedly stealing the sports car from the yard of Endicott Enterprises in Richfield.

Tehama County Sheriff's deputies went to the yard at 12:49 p.m. on Saturday and spoke with Bert Endicott, who told them someone had broke into the yard and stole the car, said deputies.

Bert said a neighbor called him to report seeing the Corvette drive away from the yard, according to the sheriff's office.

Corning police Officer Jeremiah Fears saw the vehicle and began following it as it went northbound on Interstate 5 from Corning Road, according to police logs.

Police followed the Corvette as it traveled up the freeway past Finnell Avenue, then the Thomas Creek overpass. Near the Gyle Road exit, the California Highway Patrol stopped the car and detained Rindahl and Forest without incident, said police.

Sheriff's deputies arrived and arrested the men and booked them into the Tehama County Jail on suspicion of burglary and auto theft with bail set at $20,000 each, the department reported.

The $30,000 Corvette was returned to its owner undamaged, the department reported.

Rindahl was one of the reported victims who testified against Thomas Endicott, 72, of Richfield, during a 2007 trial in which a jury found Endicott not guilty on 14 counts, including child molestation and sodomy, and was undecided on 11 counts of child molestation.

Rindahl may be asked to testify against Endicott again, this time in federal court.

On March 30, 2008 Endicott was arrested by federal authorities who charged him with six felony counts of transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in sexual activity.

Endicott remains in custody in the Sacramento County Jail without bail.
