Tehama County Undersheriff recovering from motorcycle crash

Tehama County Undersheriff Dennis Garton continues recuperating from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident Friday while on vacation.

Tehama County Sheriff Clay Parker provided an update on Garton's condition at Tuesday's meeting of the Tehama County Board of Supervisors.

According to Parker, Garton was in the process of traveling across the country on his Honda Goldwing when the accident occurred near Winnemucca, Nev.

Parker reported that the valve stem on the rear tire of Garton's motorcycle was somehow sheared off resulting in a rapid loss of air. The air loss caused Garton's motorcycle to go into a wobble before he was forced to lay it down on the pavement.

As of Tuesday Garton remained in a Reno, Nev. hospital with injuries that included a concussion, fractured vertebrae in his neck and back, a broken foot, broken hand, broken ribs, and road rash.

Parker said that Garton was scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday, and that pending the results of the MRI, Garton was scheduled to return to Tehama County Wednesday where he could begin the recuperation process with his own physicians.

Same-sex slapdown
What's your reaction to the state Supreme Court upholding the ban on same-sex marriage?
I'm glad to see the will of the majority of voters was supported.
I don't agree with it. Equal rights should be for all Californians.
