Head-on collision sends 4 to hospitals
A Red Bluff man had to extricated from his demolished vehicle following a head-on collision on Highway 99E Thursday afternoon.
The crash closed the highway down to one lane for about one hour as rescue personnel worked on four people injured in the collision.
Steven Capps, 32, of Red Bluff, was driving a Honda Civic northbound on the highway when for unknown reasons he drifted into the southbound lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Honda slammed into a southbound Toyota Tacoma driven by Heidi Harman, 31, of Roseville, said the CHP.
The impact caused the pickup to roll, coming to rest on its side on the west side of the highway and blocking the northbound lane.
Capps, who CHP said sufferered serious injuries, was airflighted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Harman, and her two juvenile daughters, who received moderate injures, were taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, the CHP stated.
A Pomeranian puppy in the Toyota pickup was thrown from the vehicle, but found unscathed by Tehama County District Attorney investigator Martin Perrone.
It is unknown if alcohol is a factor in the collision, said the CHP.
