Alder, Elam, Potato Patch, and Butte Meadows campgrounds on the Almanor Ranger District along Deer and Butte creeks, are set to open on April 26. Those planning to camp at those sites should be prepared for low nighttime temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s, said forest officials.
Plans are to open all other Almanor District campgrounds, including Gurnsey Creek and Almanor, the weekend before the Memorial Day weekend.
All Lassen Forest campgrounds along Hat Creek are scheduled to open April 27, with the exception of Big Pine.
The Old Station Visitor Center, at the junction of Highway 44 and Highway 89, opens April 28. The center will be staffed weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The center will begin a summer schedule in mid-June, opening 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday through Sunday.
Concessionaire campgrounds on the Eagle Lake Ranger District are set to open May 15. The marina store will be open with limited hours and supplies on May 19, and open fully by Memorial Day.
Information on concessionaire facilities and services is available by calling 257-3067.
Other Eagle Lake District campgrounds and day use areas will be ready to open May 17.
Dispersed camping is also allowed in the forest. However, visitors are reminded to keep their vehicles on existing roadways, as cross-country travel is prohibited. Visitors are also reminded that a California campfire permit is required for campfires away from developed campgrounds.
Permits are free and can be picked up at any CalFire, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, or Forest Service office.
