Ribs, rods, rides ready to rock
It going to be hot, delicious and high-flying fun at Rolling Hills Casino Saturday and Sunday.
The Ribs, Rods, and Rides Hot Air Balloon Festival, sponsored by the Red Bluff/Tehama County Chamber of Commerce, lifts off with 15 professionally piloted hot air balloons taking to the skies at 7 a.m. and floating over the casino and south Tehama County.
“This is a first time event that the Chamber and our county can be proud of,” said Kristin Behrens, president of the Red Bluff/Tehama County Chamber of Commerce. “Many hours of volunteer time, energy and financial resources have been donated to make this a spectacular event, one that will highlight our area as the premier destination that it is.”
Top-ranked Balloon Meister and licensed balloon pilot, Russ James, will be on hand to oversee the flight, and more than 150 classic cars will be on hand for viewing.
A mouthwatering treat will come from the Rib Cook Off as the fire departments from Corning, Red Bluff and Tehama County, and casino culinary teams compete for best chef awards.
“Tehama County will not be disappointed,” adds Behrens.
The event will include a festival of activities:
• Balloons lift off 7 a.m. weather permitting) Balloon rides $200 per person both days weather permitting.
• Classic Car Show begins at 9 a.m.
• Rib Cook off - $15 per person all you can eat ribs, available at noon.
• Dramatic and scenic Balloon Glow, Saturday evening at dusk (6-8 p.m. weather permitting)
On Sunday, balloons will lift off again at dawn for one last rise above Tehama County. Live music sets the festival tone in the Rolling Hills northwest parking lot.
“We are excited about these three groups joining together to provide a stellar community event and to raise funds and awareness for their individual charities,” Kate Grissom, director of marketing for Rolling Hills Casino and Resort said,
The balloon rally proceeds will benefit the Red Bluff/Tehama County Chamber of Commerce.
The Rib Cook-Off proceeds will benefit the Handi-Riders of Chico, with the Car Show’s proceeds to benefit the poor and the homeless in Butte County through contributions to the Jesus Center and the Esplanade House.
