Fundraiser benefits shelter
It was a music to her ears when Debbie Eaglebarger of Second Chance Pet Rescue learned Saturday’s “Music for Mutts Festival” fundraiser brought $2,072 to the dog-saving organization.
“I’m in shock,” Eaglebarger said. “This is just amazing. Our sponsors and the community really came through for us.”
The second annual event was held at Corning’s Veterans Memorial Hall where the Blackletter Brothers Band offered a free concert. Books, jewelry and food were sold to help raise funds for Second Chance and the Corning Animal Shelter, of which Eaglebarger is caretaker.
“The money will go to rebuilding the Weaver Medical Fund and installing dog agility equipment at the this summer,” said Eaglebarger.
In the raffle, Sue Henderson won the grand prize, a Vizio 26-inch flat screen television. Henderson is a Corning native who for the past 37 years has owned and operated Ingenue Beauty Salon at 1948 Solano St.
“We gave away hundreds of dollars worth of donated prizes,” said Eaglebarger. “This event was fantastic, especially when you figure last year we only made $370 for the pet rescue.”
The Corning Animal Shelter and Second Chance have been in partnership to help the homeless dogs in Corning for seven years. Together they offer care to the shelter animals, puppy socialization classes, obedience classes, a spay/neuter program, medical care, dog adoptions, and pit bull citizenship classes.
