Mixing it up olive style in Corning
It was standing room only during the Olive Festival Mixer on Thursday evening as dozens of folks crammed into the Bell Carter breakroom to enjoy an olive-themed party.
"We welcome everyone here," said Deb Taylor, of Bell Carter Foods, Inc., which sponsored the event.
Poise and beauty lined the beverage table as newly crowned Miss Corning Anne Trevino and her court, Meagan Carpenter, Christina Acosta, Camille Blanchard, Jessie Rose Bradley, and Sherry Bell served drinks.
Nearly all of the food dishes prepared by caterer Linda Lima featured olives, keeping in tune with the festival's mascot - the olive of course.
Giving away of raffle prizes by Tayor and co-worker Linda Tousey, topped out the evening's event.
Wednesday's high temperatures offered the perfect backdrop for the Water Festival at Northside Park pool.
Kids had a riot of fun as lifeguard Nate Borer led them through a lineup of wet fun, including competitions in the big and small splash, coolest trick off the diving board, best belly flop, money dive and the ever popular watermelon grab.
Last night, the festival highlights were the parade and bed races.
The week of events ends today at Corning's Woodson Park, where people have the opportunity to water-down some politicians and potential politicians in the dunk tank, watch a talent show, eat food and drinks, play games, shop at craft, art and gift booths, and more.
