Corning man surrenders to deputy and K-9 Rico
A
call to a disturbance involving a gun has put a Corning man behind bars, facing
a series of charges.
At
approximately 8:34 p.m. Sunday, Tehama County Sheriff's (TCSD) deputies
responded to a reported disturbance involving a firearm on McLane Avenue in
Corning.
A
TCSD report stated that a vehicle fled the scene before the deputies arrived. A
vehicle matching the description was then seen traveling west on McLane Avenue.
During
a brief pursuit, deputies saw the passenger in the vehicle throw a
short-barreled shotgun out the passenger door of the vehicle. When the vehicle
stopped on Blackburn Avenue at Alex Court, the passenger, Manuel Lopez, 20, of
Corning, attempted to flee on foot.
Lopez
quit running when confronted by deputy and Rico, a TCSD canine.
Lopez
was on parole, and was booked into the Tehama County Jail on charges of felon
in possession of a firearm, possession of a short barreled shotgun, possession
of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and the parole violation.
His
bail was set at $25,000 for the new charges, and "no bail" for the parole
violation.
Martha
Magallanez, 20, of Corning, who was the driver of the vehicle, was charged with
evading a police officer.
She
was also booked into the Tehama County Jail on $1,900 bail.
