Corning 2, Pleasant Valley 0
A pair of Diego Figueroa goals in the second half enabled the fifth-seeded Cardinals to blank the fourth-seeded Vikings on Thursday in Chico in the first round of the Division I playoffs.
Marvin Umana made eight saves in goal for Corning (16-3-2).
The Cardinals face top-seeded Shasta (14-1-2) in the semifinals on Tuesday in Redding.
Varsity Girls Basketball
Anderson 67, Corning 55
The Lady Cardinals trailed 37-26 at the half and were unable to put together a second-half comeback in Tuesday's loss in Anderson.
Anderson sophomore Katie Nunnelley scored 29 points and hauled down 19 rebounds, with freshman Natalie Campos and Fallon Greenhaw scoring 12 points apiece.
Corning (14-9, 5-3 Northern Athletic League) hosted West Valley on Friday.
JV Girls Basketball
Corning 57, Anderson 24
Sofia Oliverez's team-leading 17 points and 10 from Bailie Fryar helped the junior varsity Lady Cardinals improve to 8-0 in he Northern Athletic League with Tuesday's win in Anderson.
Kaylee Shoemaker and Avree Mulliner both added eight points, and Mulliner posted team highs with seven rebounds and three assists.
