Corning teams boot competition
There is a pair of Corning Youth Soccer League making major noise on soccer pitches in the area, and aiming to continue their recent success.
The Corning United Aguilas U-14 squad went undefeated in the California Youth Soccer Association District IX Walt Zinko Playing League, finishing 9-0 against a pair of teams from Anderson, along with teams representing Trinity, Red Bluff and Redding.
In those nine contests, the Aguilas outscored their competitors 52-4.
Their next goal is a strong showing at the Founder Cup, being held in Ripon on Dec. 8-9.
The Diablos U-19 squad is also moving on after taking first place in the District Cup held Nov. 3 in Palo Cedro. The Diablos downed the Anderson Gunners 4-0, and calmed the Palo Cedro Storm 6-4.
They will play in the Presidents Cup in March, but the exact date and location has yet to be determined.
