Sports Briefs: Corning Lions peewees clarification
Corning Lions peewees clarification
The story in the Wednesday edition titled "Lions peewees fall to Chico, finish second" caused some confusion. While the playoff bracket on the NorcalFed website lists the winners of the Super Bowl with the Chico Scorchers as the "Midget Division" champions, the distinction was not clear.
The Lions were the undefeated champions of the Northern Conference's Division II, while the Scorchers were the champions of the Southern Conference's Division I.
Providence holds awards night
Providence Christian High held its fall sports awards night recently to recognize the efforts of the volleyball and cross country teams. Tucker Hoffman claimed first place and Guy Sinclair, third, during the Mountain Valley League Championships. Nathan Bristley took second in the junior varsity division. Hoffman also qualified for the state championships with a 12th-place showing at the Northern Section finals.
Elizabeth Anderson and Lyndsay Lely each received an award for being a four-year member of the volleyball team, as did Hoffman for cross country.
Additionally, Bristley and Elizabeth Manthei received awards for being the member of each squad with the highest GPA.
