Varsity Girls Basketball
Corning 85, Willows 63
The Lady Cardinals shot the lights out in Willows on Tuesday, scoring 21 first-quarter points, adding 23 in the second and sizzling for 32 in the fourth period.
Bailey Jennings led three Corning shooters scoring in double digits with 16 points, and was followed closely by Rachel Silva (15) and Marisa Vinson (14).
Eleven different players scored for Corning, with Emerie Eller and Gates Fears both pitching in with eight points.
Jennings also led the way with eight rebounds and nine steals.
Corning (1-0) is playing in the weekend's Live Oak Tournament.
Girls Soccer
Corning 1, Oroville 0
The Lady Cardinals played Oroville in a an extremely wet and windy game on the road Thursday, and came away with a 1-0 win.
Patricia Ibarra notched the lone goal of the contest, and was assisted by Caitlin McCoy.
Anissa Munoz made five saves in goal for Corning.
Boys Soccer
Orland 2, Corning 0
After a scoreless first half in Orland on Tuesday, the host Trojans used second-half goals by Francisco Guerrero and Marcos Martinez to send the Cardinals home with a loss.
Corning 2, Oroville 1
The Cardinals one-upped the Tigers, but statistics were available before press time.
JV Boys Basketball
Corning 53, Willows 25
It was all Corning on Tuesday, as the Cardinals built up a 23-12 halftime lead and cruised to the win.
Twelve different players scored for the Cardinals, led by Manny Garcia with 14 points, while Jesse Bennett notched 12. Joe Aguirre added eight points and Chance Nelson, five.

Cards grapple with Trojans
There was no junior varsity dual between Corning and Orland on Wednesday, but some freshmen and sophomore grapplers got their first taste of action for the season.
Allen Cervantes (113 pounds) lost a 19-14 decision, and Brock Wazny (145) came out on the short end of a 19-6 major decision. Cody Hiller (145), Austin Cunningham (160), Henrique Espinoza (160), Zack Pritchard (160) and Cristian Briceno (170) lost by pinfall.
