Cards make jailbreak at Folsom
Corning High's varsity wrestling team finished eighth out of 16 teams at the Jailbreak Duals held at Folsom High on Saturday.
In the original pool, the Cardinals were slammed by Folsom (75-0) but earned wins against Bear River (42-36) and Casa Grande (36-18). In the second-place team pool, Corning fell to Napa (69-3) and Las Lomas (48-27).
Corning forfeited five weight classes to Folsom due to illnesses and absences, but regrouped to win the next two duals in impressive fashion, according to coach Cort Mitchell, as the two wins came despite giving up the five weight classes against each opponent.
"We wrestled much better against Las Lomas to end the day," Mitchell said, "outscoring them 21-18 in matches we actually wrestled. Once again, the forfeits were just too much to overcome.
Alex DeJesus, Josh Shults, Coy Parker, Tony Carrillo and Evan McFadden each won three matches.
