Corning 9-10 softball team wins District 1
The Corning Little League Minor Girls All-Star team won the District 1 Tournament last week at Jackson Heights School in Red Bluff, finishing undefeated with a pair of wins over the hosts and a victory in the first round against Cottonwood.

Cheyenne Boles hurled a complete game in Corning’s 12-2 victory in the tourney opener versus Cottonwood.
She allowed one earned run and one walk in four innings of work, with three strikeouts.
Avree Mulliner collected a pair of hits and runs batted in to pace the Corning offense and teammates Daisy Brose, Sophia Oliverez, Bailey Fryar, Whitney Armstrong and Kaitlin Cox all scored twice.
Kimmie White smacked a RBI single, Bethany Bott hit a single with a RBI and a run scored and Tristan Loghry also crossed the plate for Corning.

The Corning All-Stars met Red Bluff in the semifinals and advanced to the championship round with a 15-5 victory.
Brose powered the offense with three hits in four trips to the plate. She ripped a double, knocked in a run and scored once.
Armstrong also clubbed a double, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run.
Bott was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored and Fryar and Cox both singled twice with a pair of runs scored.
Oliverez started on the hill and pitched one inning, striking out two batters. Fryar earned the victory in relief, going three innings and allowing just one earned run.
White crossed the plate twice for Corning, Loghry and Mullier singled and scored runs and Oliverez scored once while driving in a run.
Shawnee Winterson and Boles also crossed the plate to aid the Corning triumph.

Red Bluff battled back through the loser’s bracket to the championship round and Corning was waiting to hand their cross-county rivals a 16-10 defeat Wednesday.
Boles dodged 10 bases on balls to net a complete-game victory. She gave up eight earned runs in six innings and struck out six batters.
Oliverez and Brose scored three runs apiece and Cox scored twice. Cox and Brose each had two hits and Boles touched home twice to help her own cause.
Fryar and Mulliner each singled and scored runs and Maddy Caputo, Winterson, Armstrong and White also put runs on the board for Corning.
Corning (3-0) began the Section 2 Tournament over the weekend in McArthur.
