Lady Cardinals split NAL softball contests
The Corning varsity softball team lost to a pair of tough league foes last week but closed it out strong, scoring in double digits on Friday to beat Anderson.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Cards committed nine errors and managed just two hits at home in a 7-0 loss to West Valley. Jessica Flores went 2-for-3 and pitched the entire game, allowing only one earned run. She did not walk a batter and struck out five.
On Thursday, Corning was also two-hit by Lassen in Susanville, a 5-0 loss. Erin Lowe and Vada Bree Sutfin had the only hits for Corning, and Flores threw another solid game. She allowed eight hits, four earned runs, walked none and fanned seven.
The Lady Cardinals found their bats in time for the road trip to Anderson, cramming 10 hits to win 10-3.
Flores won her 18th game of the year, holding the Lady Cubs to just four hits and two earned runs. She did not issue a walk for the third straight game and struck out 13.
Kili Parker ripped three hits, scoring twice and driving in three runs, and Flores also tripled and drove in three runs. Sutfin and Lowe each scored twice, Britany Silva laid down a sacrifice bunt and scored along with teammates Natasha Leonard and Sonya Scott.
The Lady Cards (4-4 NAL, 18-14) hosted Lassen yesterday and travel to Yreka for a make-up game on Thursday.
