Lions in catfights with Jaguars

With all the scrimmages and jamborees behind them, the Corning Lions took the field for real at Corning High on Saturday, kicking off the regular season against the Chico Jaguars.

The Lions remain at home this week, hosting the Paradise Bobcats.

Jr. Midgets

The Lions fell 22-8 in their season-opener.

After the Jaguars scored on their opening series, the Lions roared back when Alex Davila took off on a 65-yard TD gallop, and split the uprights to tie the score at 8-8.

The Lions were able to move the ball against the Chico defense, but were stymied by a pair of turnovers inside the Jaguars' 10.

Davila, Austin Fox, Isaiah Jones and Wyatt Haydon were all praised for coming up with big defensive plays.

Peewees

The Lions were doubled up by the score of 12-6. Statistics were not provided.

Midgets

The Lions fell victim to the Jaguars 16-8. Statistics were not provided.
